i have always loved my grandmother. when my mom went though basic training in search of a better life for us, i stayed with her. she was strict and even harsh at times, but i saw it all through a lens of love. my sentiment deemed her spicy. with a switch and a scathing, quick-whipped tongue, she demanded obedience. she was probably also lighter on me because of the duration of my stay whereas the other children of her children – my cousins – lived with her for years.

Jocelyn Solorzano has designed more than 50 bags for her Going Green For Grandpa campaign. Since June, when she first saw a report on how little the government contributes to Alzheimer’s research, Solorzano has been designing bags and selling them to help raise money for the cause.
